Three prominent Arab leaders are subjected to excoriating attack by Ibrahim Alshanti, editor of the Arabic paper, Al Difa, because they have been untrue to the Arab cause.
Denouncing the Mufti, the Moslem religious leader, the editor demands an accounting of the funds raised to erect in Jerusalem a Moslem university which would be a center of Moslem culture.
“Why have you not rendered an accounting of the money you collected in India and why have you not begun the building of the Moslem university?” he asks editorially. “Who aspires to be a leader of the people must also assume responsibility toward it.”
Shifting his attack to Ragheb Bey Nashashibi, who was recently defeated for re-election as mayor of Jerusalem, the editor accuses Ragheb Bey of founding his new political party “for personal ends.” He accuses the former mayor of having the support of “persons who engage in land sales to Jews and, hence, you are placed in the class with them.”
Auni Bey Abdul Hadi, leader of the extreme nationalist Arab party, is accused of slackening down in his campaign against the Jews since the November, 1933, demonstrations. Declaring that the nationalist party is “crumbling away.” the belligerent editor warns: “The people accuse you of being responsible for this national offense.”
