Palestine Ponders New School Plan

Because a centralized system of education in Palestine Hebrew Schools is not working efficiently on account of a variety of impediments—financial, administrative and political— decentralization is now being considered.

For the past two years administration of the system has been conducted by the Vaad Leumi, representative body of the Palestine Jewish community. Previously it was conducted by the Jewish Agency for Palestine.

The school system is supported financially by the community with the help of a yearly grant from the government of approximately $140,000. The newly proposed system of decentralization is modelled after the English school system. The present system is similar to the French plan.
