A scientific expedition of more than 300 men will proceed shortly to Biro-Bidjan to investigate the natural resources there, according to a decision announced here today.

The importance of this expedition can be judged from the fact that the government has assigned six million roubles (approximately $3,000,000) for its work.

The expedition will work in cooperation with the Far Eastern Geological Trust. It will in the first place devote its activities to the discovery of minerals which are believed to be a part of the hidden treasures of this region. It will also endeavor to establish the possibility of developing coal mines there.

In connection with the projected expedition, it was stated here today that as long ago as three years Soviet scientists had discovered coal in the district of the River Bureya. It was on the basis of this discovery that certain industries were undertaken in Biro-Bidjan.
