The local authorities today notified the Executive of the Wilno Jewish Community that the Government has decided not to disturb the famous old Jewish cemetery. This decision was adopted, the authorities said, out of respect for Jewish religious laws.
The local municipal council was reported a year ago ready to order removal of the Jewish cemetery. The Jewish community protested Vigorously pointing out that this cemetery contains the remains of numerous great Jews, including the Wilno Gaon and the famous “Ger Tzedek”, Count Pototski. They also maintained that to disturb the cemetery would be a transgression of Jewish religious laws.
