Arabs Call General Strike As Protest Against “armed Jewry”

The 900,000 Arabs of Palestine were called upon today to participate in a general strike Saturday against the alleged peril of an “armed Jewry.”

The action was taken at a joint meeting yesterday of representatives of all Arab parties after the party of the Grand Mufti Amin el Husseini had bolted the meeting and called its own strike for today.

The general strike arose from Arab protests against alleged Jewish gun-running following the discovery of ammunition in a shipment of cement on a Belgian liner to a Jewish importer in Tel Aviv.

The opinion was voiced at the Arab conference that almost the entire Arab population would join the strike.
