Lord Beaverbrook’s Daily Express, the largest newspaper in England, today published a sharp attack on Zionism in connection with the present Arab disorders in Palestine, charging it, with “trying to prop up a Jewish national state in Palestine on British bayonets.”
Referring to Lord Beaverbrook’s opposition to Zionism seventeen years ago, when the paper declared the Palestine experiment was “doomed to disaster,” the Express declares in an editorial that this prediction is now working out.
Characterizing anti-Semitism as an “ignorant and fantastic prejudice,” the paper describes anti-Zionism as opposition to a Jewish national state dependent on British arms, which is “far-sighted political realism.”
