An emergency conference of Eastern executives of Junior Hadassah at the Hotel Astor decided today to accept the national board’s proposal to raise the budget from $48,000 to $58,000 for its Palestine projects.
The additional funds will go to enlarge Meier Shfeyah, a children’s colony, by admission of 50 children in addition to the 115 now living there. The need for aiding Jewish children in Palestine has increased as a result of current disorders, it was pointed out.
The budget also includes maintenance costs of an orange grove for training in citrus farming and the Henrietta Szold School for Nursing. The principal speaker was Miss Sulamith Schwartz, formerly of Brooklyn and now chairman of Meier Shfeyah’s advisory committee, who stressed the need of children for aid.
