High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope stepped in today to adjust a dispute over the mayoralty of the all-Jewish city of Tel Aviv.
He invited Acting Mayor Israel Rokach, one of the claimants of the post, and Dov Hos, supporter of Mayor-Elect Moshe Chelouche, with their wives to dine at his home tomorrow evening and later attend a memorial of the Habima theatre group for Meier Dizengoff, late mayor of Tel Aviv.
The dispute arose when Mr. Rokach, presiding over the special meeting of the Municipal Council which elected Mr. Chelouche, heeded the request of Conservative groups to close the meeting before the letter to the High Commissioner announcing the election result had been drawn up.
