Dr. Buckhardt, prominent Swiss Professor of History, today was appointed High Commissioner for the League of Nations at Danzig, the Havas News Agency reported.
Dr. Buckhardt replaces Sean Lester, the former High Commissioner, who was named Assistant Secretary General of the League after difficulties with Nazi leaders in Danzig virtually forced his removal.
With Nazi elements in Danzig vigorously opposed to the reappointment of a High Commissioner, the League had difficulty in finding an acceptable incumbent.
