An appeal to send Hebrew teachers to the Jews of India, described as the most remarkable community in the world was made today by Dr. Emanuel Olswanger addressing the Anglo-Palestine Club.

He said the Jews in India number 25,000, of whom 20,000 are members of the sect called Bene Israel, the legendary survivors of seven men and women who fled from Palestine in pre-Biblical times and were shipwrecked in Bombay. Their descendants were discovered by American Christian missionaries who taught them Hebrew.
