Five persons were under arrest today after Fascists attempting to hold a meeting in the Jewish quarter of London’s East End had clashed with Jews. Police clubbed the crowds to break up the clash and strong police reinforcements remained on duty in the East End throughout the night to prevent further disorders.

The Jewish People’s Council against anti-Semitism issued a statement today declaring that recent attempts by Fascists to hold meetings in Jewish areas were aimed solely at provoking disorders and obtaining the prohibition of all meetings. The council expressed fears of worse excesses yet to come, and demanded in the name of law and order the suppression of “Fascist provocation.”
