The deathly stillness of curfew-bound Tiberias was pierced, this afternoon by the chanting of el Molei Rachamim, the prayer for the dead, as the funeral procession passed before the burned ruins of the central synagogue, which still covered the body of its beadle, jacob Saltz, and the holy scrolls. the funeral started at three o’clock under the auspices of the local Chevrah Kadishah (burial society). only a few outsiders were present, because of the curfew.
