The authorities have certified 106 Jewish “consultants” to continue law practice exclusively for Jewish clients, representing six per cent of the 1,700 Jewish lawyers in Vienna before the purge of the law profession. By administrative ruling, members of the Nazi Party and affiliated organizations throughout the Reich were reminded that they must not represent Jews as lawyers or give them legal advice. Exceptions are made for public officials and for lawyers who, “in the interests of the Reich,” are authorized to defend Jews before the People’s Court or before special courts on charges of serious attacks against the Nazi Party or the State.
