Rumania Gives Jews New Chance for Citizenship; Jewish Senator Named

The Rumanian Government today appointed Chief Rabbi Jacob Niemirower as an ex officio member of the Senate.

The Government has decided to provide facilities for Jews previously unable to submit documents proving their nationality by giving them an opportunity to apply for inclusion in a special citizenship list, thus obtaining full citizenship. Meanwhile, the Justice Ministry postponed until after Aug. 1 publication of the results of the recent citizenship revision. Documents proving citizenship rights must be filed with special commissions by that date.

Premier Armand Calinescu has sent personal letters to several Jewish communities expressing thanks for contributions to the Army fund. He also telegraphed thanks to Dr. William Filderman, Jewish leader, for a personal contribution.
