The largest German bookshop in the East, located in the heart of the German populated Yorkville section of New York and known as a center of Nazi literature, has closed for lack of business, it was learned today.
The store was the Deutsche Buchhandlung at 1472 Third Ave., owned by H. Jurgens, a member of Fritz Kuhn’s German-American Bund. His shop had been listed in the “Trade Guide” of the German Consumers’ League, an affiliate of the Bund.
Jurgens told a reporter that, although he had in stock a large supply of Nazi books and pamphlets, his business was worse than at any time since the establishment opened ten years ago. He has since found employment with the Germania Book and Specialty Corporation, 1523 Third Ave.
