Archbishop Edward Mooney of Detroit, Father Charles E. Coughlin’s diocesan superior, was urged today in a telegram from L.M.Birkhead, national director of Friends of Democracy, Inc., to take action against the “radio whole movement of goodwill between Catholics, Protestants and Jews.”The telegram to Archbishop Mooney followed a plea made yesterday by Birkhead to the Federal Communication Commission to bar Father Coughlin from the use of the airways for broadcasting speeches “inciting to revolution, civil war and bloodshed.”
