Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, asserted today that “the Jewish people will carry on” in the fight to free Europe from Hitlerism.

Addressing members of the Agency Executive and the Zionist General Council, Dr. Weizmann said the Agency was continuing its efforts in regard to the offer to raise Jewish military units and provide economic services to help the British war effort.

The war will not be fought by weapons alone, he declared. The spirit of the peoples of oppressed Europe will assert itself and break through the chains which are holding them down, he said.

“In that struggle, we, the Jewish people, have a part to play, for we, from our history, know what is indomitable in the soul of man,” he asserted. “It befits us, above all others, to be courageous and not to lose faith.”

Referring to the “valiant Yishub” continuing its work of building and planting despite the difficulties besetting it, Dr. Weizmann said “that is the message that must be conveyed to all Jews in free countries. It is that spirit which must be instilled into that other great outpost of the Jewish people–the United States. The Jewish people will carry on!”

Dr. Weizmann reviewed the Zionist position in Palestine, the United States and Britain. He described surrent redustrial and agricultural developments in Palestine, the Jewish Agency’s work regarding immigration and transportation of refugees to Palestine. He said he was deeply impressed, during his visit to America, by the keen desire of American Jewry to shoulder its burden in the rehabilitation of European Jewry and in support of the Palestine Jewish community.
