Delayed, incomplete messages received by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today from Jerusalem indicated that serious difficulties had cropped up in Palestine in connection with the arrival at Haifa of two steamers carrying 1,771 refugees.
It was believed here on the basis of these reports that the authorities had refused to permit the passengers to land, causing considerable excitement in the Palestine Jewish community.
The Jews hurriedly called a meeting of representatives of all bodies to discuss the case. This was climaxed by an extraordinary convocation of the Jewish National Assembly which reached complete unanimity today on the course of action to be followed, it was reported. It was not known here what decisions had been taken.
