2,500 Bucharest Jews were suddenly rounded up in their homes last night by the police who took them out of bed and ordered them to dress in working clothes. They were then led to the railway station and sent for forced labor into the “liberated zone” on the very battlefront in Bessarabia.

Simultaneously instructions were broadcast today over the Bucharest radio ordering all Jewish adults to hold themselves in readiness for departure, on short notice, to the front lines for forced labor under the very fire of the Soviet guns. At the same time the Rumanian press, led by the organ of Premier Antonescu started a renewed campaign demanding stricter measures against Jews in Rumania.
