Varian Fry, American relief workers, who was ordered expelled from un-occupied France, stated here today that he was “convinced that it was the Gestapo and not the French authorities who decided to put me out.”
Mr. Fry who had been engaged in refugee relief work in unoccupied France for more than a year as a representative of the Emergency Rescue Committee, was active in behalf of political, and intellectual refugees. He revealed that prior to his expulsion he had been warned by the French police that he “was protecting too many Jews and anti-Nazis.” He was also criticized by the French police authorities for employing Jews on his staff.
