A declaration that the Yishub is now agriculturally self-sufficient was made today by Dr. Arthur Ruppin, agricultural expert for the Jewish Agency, at a conference in which 250 Jewish farmers “from Dan to Beersheba” participated.

The conference was called to discuss means of increasing the production of wheat and oil-giving agricultural products. R. P. Mason, Director of Agriculture for the Palestine Government, asked the assembled farmers to do their utmost to increase agricultural production so that valuable shipping space could be transferred from transporting food to war uses. He asked that particular attention be devoted to increasing the crop of ground nuts and soya beans, both of which are valuable sources of vegetable fats. The Rehevoth Agricultural Research Station of the Jewish Agency came in for particular praise from Mason who lauded “its experiments and achievements.”
