A dispute has broken out between the French Chamber of Lawyers and the Paris authorities, in connection with the number of Jewish counsellors that will still be permitted to practice at the Paris bar, it was learned here today.
The lawyers’ group has proposed that a total of 53 Jewish barristers be allowed to continue in the profession. The authorities, however, maintain that only 44 Jews should be allowed to practice, since that constitutes two percent of the 2,200 lawyers in Paris. The dispute has been submitted to the Court of Appeals which is meeting in camera. A decision will shortly be given.
