Half of the fine of a billion francs (about $20,000,000) imposed by the German occupation authorities on the Jews of occupied France has already been collected, according to reports reaching here today.

Simultaneously, it was reported today over the Paris radio that the Chief of Police there has notified all Jews engaged in businesses and professions which involve their coming in contact with non-Jews to surrender their licenses and permits to the Paris police authorities by tomorrow. They are also to discontinue practicing their professions as of tomorrow, the order said. It applies both to native and foreign-born Jews.
