Peaceful demonstrations protesting the Palestine Government’s refusal to admit the Strume refugees took place this afternoon before the offices of the municipality here.
A nation-wide work stoppage, proclaimed by the Tel Aviv municipality and leading Jewish institutions, was held from noon to midnight yesterday in all factories and shops except those working on war orders. A self-imposed curfew extending from one o’clock yesterday afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening was proclaimed and Jewish residents stayed off the streets.
