Bulgarian Parliament Gives Government Authority to Introduce Rigid Anti-jewish Laws

The Government of Bulgaria, the only Axis-dominated country which has not yet introduced the full list of anti-Jewish laws, was given full power by the Bulgarian parliament yesterday to “solve the Jewish problem on a racial basis,” it was announced today by the Sofia radio, which has been preparing the people for this measure in daily anti-Semitic broadcasts during the past few weeks.

The resolution was adopted over the bitter opposition of many of the deputies and after a protracted debate that lasted for several days. From statements made during the course of the debate by Interior Minister Petar Grabovski, it is expected that the Jewish problem will be “solved” according to the usual Nazi pattern. Graboyski told the parliament that existing laws for the defense of the nation have certain flaws “which the Jews use to their own ends.” He declared that the new legislation was also needed because “Jews worked against the Government’s policy as well as against the Axis powers.”
