Impressed by the reports of unprecedented Nazi massacres of Jews in occupied East-European territories, Lt. Colonel Sir Thomas Moore, speaking in the House of Commons today, asked what was being done to warn the people of Germany that they will all be held responsible for the murdering of innocent civilians in countries invaded by the German armies.

Replying to this question, Anthony Eden, British Foreign Secretary, disclosed that the German people are being warned through leaflets dropped from British airplanes that retribution will be exacted from them if the atrocities continue. They are bringing home to the German people by every means at our disposal that by continuing to support the Nazi regime, the people of Germany are accepting ever-increasing responsibility for the action of that regime committed in their name,” Eden said. He added that “the Governments concerned are keeping a diligent record of the Nazi atrocities in order to make use of it in the future.”

Asked whether the British leaflets and radio broadcasts warning the German people have any effect, Eden replied that he is not ready as yet to state the effect of this propaganda. The German press and radio are systematically suppressing news of the atrocities committed by the Nazis in the occupied territories, he declared.
