For the first time in the history of Soviet Russia reference is made today in the Soviet press to Tisha B’ab, the day when Jews throughout the world mourn the destruction of the Temple more than 2,500 years ago.

Analysing the general situation on the Egyptian front, a Moscow weekly, Ogonick, which has a large national circulation, predicts that the Nazi army of Gen. Roemel will definitely be defeated. Emphasizing that Jews in Palestine and elsewhere this week will observe the traditional Tisha B’ab day of mourning to mark the destruction of Jerusalem, the article states that there will be no destruction of Jerusalem in this war. The Axis armies in the Middle East will never succeed in reaching Palestine, the writer believes.
