French People Oppose Nazi Persecution of Jews, Swiss Correspondent Reports

The French people are actively opposed to the deportation of Jews by the Nazis, it was indicated in an article in the Swiss newspaper Basler Nachrichten today. The article said that the recent round-ups of Jews by the Nazi occupation authorities were “the topic of all conversation” in the Parts area, and that the majority of the French people “simply does not understand such measures.” Other reports reaching here today from Paris stated that a large number of French police officers have been arrested by the Germans for refusing to carry out the Nazi orders to round up the Jews.
