A campaign to purchase and send 1,000 fully equipped medical filed units to Soviet Russia for use at the front, each unit to cost $2,000, has been undertaken by the United Jewish War Effort, it was announced today by Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Chairman of the organization, and Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, Chairman of the Executive Committee. This special campaign, which will be launched on October 1, is part of the United Jewish War Effort’s activities on behalf of American Victory and Allied Relief.

The undertaking has the approval of the Russian Government authorities and the Soviet Purchasing Commission. In behalf of the Russian Government, Ambassador Litvinoff has assured the United Jewish War Effort of the urgent need of medical supplies by the Russians, and of the great appreciation “of the Soviet people and the Red Army for the planned help.”

In announcing the special undertaking, Dr. Wise and Dr. Tannenbaum expressed the admiration of the Jewish community of the United States for the heroic struggle of the Russian Army and pointed out that in defending their own fatherland, the Soviet Armies have also “defended millions of Jews against a ruthless enemy who has singled out the Jewish people for extermination.”
