Five hundred Jewish fraternal and benevolent associations, at a meeting yesterday at the Astor, pledged their support to the Jewish Education Committee of New York for an expanded program of instruction to give more Jewish children a knowledge of their history, culture and religion.

Edgar J. Nathan, Jr. Borough President of Manhattan, was elected president of a new organization which is to be called the League of Benevolent and Fraternal Organizations of the Jewish Education Committee. Financial aid from the new league will increase the present enrollment of more than 65,000 Jewish children in 500 New York schools through free scholarships.
