Professor Joseph P. Chamberlain of Columbia University, chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Refugee Service, tonight received a testimonial scroll from William Rosenwald, president of the organization, honoring him for half a century of public service, and particularly for his leadership in rescue of victims of Nazism, at a gathering at the Harmonie Club.

The tribute was accorded to Professor Chamberlain in the name of the officers, directors and members of the executive committee of the National Refugee Service, in celebration of his 70th birthday. The scroll extolled Professor Chamberlain as “one of the outstanding leaders in this nation in the task of aiding the new comers and helping them toward a speedy and complete adjustment to American life.” In making the presentation, Mr. Rosenwald pointed out that Professor Chamberlain had performed great services not only for refugees, but for the improvement of municipal government in New York City and federal legislation.
