The Slovakian radio today warned the local non-Jewish population against giving shelter to Jews escaping from Hungary or seeking to avoid deportation from Slovakia. The broadcast disclosed that Slovakian peasants are employing Jews on their farms and are hiding them from the authorities to help them escape deportation.
“Some Jews have been hiding in the forests near Byatre for more than two years and the government commissioner of that district failed to report them to the gendarmerie,” the broadcast complained. It added that such actions will no longer be tolerated.
