Jews entering Rumania illegally will be sentenced to death, as will all other persons helping them to enter the country, it was announced today over the Bucharest radio, which quoted a decree just issued by the pro-Nazi Rumanian Premier Lon Antonesou.

“The measure is taken in order to prevent the undermining of Rumania’s defenses by foreign Jews,” the broadcast said. At the same time it quoted articles from the Rumanian press violently attacking Jews.

The anti-Jewish campaign in the Rumanian newspapers, which had been on the decline for several weeks, has now resumed in a manner reminiscent of the early days of the war when thousands of Jews were slaughtered by Rumanians on the pretext that they were helping the Russian Army. Articles in newspapers reaching here from Bucharest blame the Jews for the defeat on the Bessarabian front and for Allied bombing of Rumanian towns.
