Jewish Religious Communities of Poland Appeal to Chief Rabbi of Palestine for Guidance

Jewish religious groups in Poland have cabled to Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog of Palestine asking him to send directives to them concerning all religious questions, especially the problem of women whose husbands have disappeared, but who have no proof of their death, it was learned here today. Rabbi Herzog’s advice was also solicited on problems of reconstruction of Jewish communities.

At the same time, the Chief Rabbi received an official communication from the Polish Ministry of Public Administration which declared that Jewish religious life in Poland has been restored. It revealed that the Polish Government summoned the representatives of all Jewish religious groups to a conference presided over by Col. David Cahane, Senior Jewish Chaplain in the Polish Forces and Rabbi Moses Steinberg of Cracow, where problems of the Jewish religious communities were discussed.

The cable to Rabbi Herzog from the religious groups disclosed that a rebbinical college has already been opened and that Polish Jews are presently engaged in restoring the cemeteries which were desecrated by the Nazis.
