Canadian Jews to Raise $1,500,000 for Overseas Relief; Aid Going to Polish Jewry

The Jews of Montreal will raise the sum of $350,000 as their share of the $1,500,000 which has been set as the All-Canadian quota for overseas relief, it was announced today. This sum is included in the Combined Jewish Appeal objective of $800,000 which is to be launched on October 2.

Canadian Jewry has already made many shipments of relief supplies to the suffering Jews of Poland and elsewhere. Representatives of the United Jewish Refugee and War Relief Agencies who were recently in London discussed with Dr. Emil Sommerstein. head of the Central Committee of Polish Jews, means of bringing speedy relief to Jewish survivors in Poland. Arrangements have been made to send future shipments direct to Dr. Sommerstein’s committee. The most recent transport included 25,000 pairs of trousers, 25,000 tunies as well as 1,500 pairs of childrens’ shoes.
