Attlee Unwilling to Admit 100,000 Jews to Palestine, Truman Says; Negotiations Continue

President Truman revealed today that Prime Minister Clement Attlee is not in agreement with his request to admit 100,000 Jewish refugees into Palestine.

The President told his press conference that he considers the suggestion which be made to the British Government reasonable, and hopes that the Prime Minister will couply with it. He declared that the matter is still under consideration by the British Government and he does not want to appear to be pushing them unduly.

Responding to the question which touched off the disclosure, namely, whether be bad had any further correspondence with Attlee on this subject, the President replied negatively. He added that he had had quite a voluminous correspondence at one time, when he made the orginal suggestion.
