Montevideo (Oct. 18)
An appeal to Prime Minister Attlee to allow Jewish immigration into Palestine has been cabled from here by the Uruguayan Christian Committee for Palestine. At the same time, the Zionist Central Council wired President Truman, thanking him for his efforts to secure increased immigration.
The Uruguyan press and organized labor have recently expressed their support of Jewish aspirations in Palestine. The General Union of Workers cabled its representative in the World Federation of Trade Unions, and the Trades Union Congress in London urging support of Zionist aims. The daily press carries editorials pointing to the necessity for increased immigration.
Meanwhile, the Zionist council has launched a campaign to secure the support of all prominent political personalities in Uruguay. It is hoped that a cable signed by leaders of the various political parties can be sent to Attlee. In addition, a campaign in the press, consisting of advertisements and articles on Palestine and Jewish problems has been started.
