Palestine Government Ignores Jewish Agency; Issues Certificates Through Consulates

In view of the fact that the Jewish Agency refused to accept the small number of immigration certificates which are still available under the terms of the White Paper, the Palestine Government, ignoring the Agency, has dispatched 400 certificates directly to British consulates for distribution among Jewish refugees, it was learned here today.

The office of the Jewish Agency is being flooded with messages from Jewish organizations in all parts of the world supporting the Agency’s fight for the emmulnent of the White Paper and the opening of Palestine for large-scale immigration of Jews from Europe. A cable received today from the central Jewish body in Transylvania says that “ten thousand destitute Jews who suffered from Nazi deportations are waiting in Transylvania for the opening of Palestine’s doors.”

The determination of King Ibn sound “to defend the Arab cause in Palestine by all legal means” was stressed today in a broadcast by the Saudi-Arabian Minister of Finance, Shaik Abdullah el Scleiman, Addressing himself to the Arabs in Palestine, the Minister declared that King Ibn Saud is now adopting “elaborate plans” with regard to the fight for Palestine, and that he considers the Palestine issue as “ferenest of all Arab questions.”

The French Telegraphic Service today reported from Beirut that the authorities in Lebanon have withdrawn the residence permits of eighteen Jews and have assigned other Jews to special places of residence. These measures were taken in accordance with the anti-Zionist attitude decided upon at the recent conference of Lebanese and Syrian statesmen, the French news agency said.

British noval forces here were reinforced today by the arrival at Haifa of the cruiser sirius. The destroyers Milne and Heydon have been here for some time.
