Poland Returning Property to Surviving Jews, Foreign Minister Reports

Polish Foreign Minister Wincenty Rzymowski, at a press conference here today, emphasized that his government is spending millions of (##)ctys for the economic rehabilitation of the surviving Jews in Poland and that the property confiscated from Jews during the German occupation is being returned.

The Central Jewish Relief Committee in Warsaw, the Minister said, will soon send a delegation to the United States, headed by its president Dr. Emil Sommerstein, for the purpose of bringing the needs of Polish Jewry to the attention of their brethen in America. He estimated that there are about 180,000 Polish Jews in the USSR and declared that their repatriation began recently.

A delegation of the American Federation of Polish Jews, headed by Dr. Joseph Issenbaum, was received yesterday by Mr. Rzymowski, who informed the delegates that the Polish Government is “ready to welcome 100,000 Jews, who, according to a recent treaty with Moscow, are soon to return to Poland from Soviet Russia.” The Minister said that his government “is not permitting the reactionary press to print false and defamatory articles inciting the population against Jews.” The delegation included Dr. Joseph Thorn, Dr. Samuel Margoshes and Arnold Grossfield.
