Bulgarian Jews were urged today by Health Minister Ratcho Angeloff to vote for a republic in today’s national referendum.
Declaring that under the Koburg dynasty fascist authorities imposed anti-Semitic restrictions, while under the present regime, “full and unprecedented rights of equality were extended,” the minister said he was certain that no Jew who remembered this would vote for the re-establishment of the monarchy. He added that since many of the “victims who died in the anti-fascist struggle were members of the Jewish community,” he was doubly certain Jews would vote for a republic.
