Jewish internees at Cyprus and deportees in Eritrea will take part in the elections for delegates to the coming World Zionist Congress. Prisoners in the Latrun detention camp and Jews held in the Athlit clearance camp will also participate.
The elections in the Palestine camps and in Cyprus will be held on Oct. 28, when the Jewish population of Palestine will go to the polls. The Cyprus votes will be added to those of Palestine, thereby stressing that the visaless Jews are already considered part of the Jewish community of Palestine.
The voting which has already been held in Eritrea showed the Revisionists leading. The Palestine Labor Party and other groups also received votes, indicating that Revisionists were not the only prisoners there. Chief Rabbi Ben Zion Usiel is leaving for Eritrea tomorrow to visit the deportees.
A Jewish Agency spokesman today told the press that the Agency was grateful to the Palestine Government for permitting the Jews held at Latrun and Athlit, and in Cyprus and Eritrea, to vote in the Congress elections.
