Spokesman for the Labor and Liberal parties today attacked John T. Lang, Independent Labor member from New South Wales for a violently anti-Semitic speech in which he criticized the government for admitting 200 refugees who arrived here recently from the Middle East.
Perey Spender, Liberal, said all Lang was concerned with was “beating the anti-Semitic drums,” while Lealie Haylen, labor, said that Lang’s motion for ceasure of the government was “not genuine.” He deplored the “narrow nationalism” which inspired it and said the government was determined he regard refugees as new citizens and “had them down in new homes.”
Minister of Immigration Arthur J. Calvall criticized the Syduey Daily Telegraph during the debate for “conducting stories to arouse the passion of #####ts.” A new outhurat of anti-immigration agitation in expected next week with the Liner John DeWitt is scheduled to arrive with more refugees.
