Draft Convention on Genocide Criculated to U.N. Members by Secretary-general

A draft convention on genocide was today distributed to the 55 members of the United Nations by Secretary-General Trygve Lie, who requested that the governments attempt to submit their observatins on the draft in time for consideratin by the Economic and Social Council, which begins meeting on July 19.

Mr. Lie said that the draft was being circulated as a basis for discussion and that he was not recommending any of the specific proposals contained in it. If the Economic and Social Council is able to agree on a draft convention, it will be submitted to the next meeting of the General Assembly in September.
