American Jewish Committee Delegation Received by U.S. Envoy in France, Labor Minister

Dr. John Slawson, executive vice-president of the American Jewish Committee, and Dr. Joel D. Wolfson, newly-appointed head of the Committee’s European operations, were received here yesterday by American Ambassador Jefferson Caffery, who welcomed the Committee’s decision to assist the Jewish communities of Europe and stressed the role it could play in combatting anti-democratic ##orces and defending Jewish rights.

French Minister of Labor Daniel Mayer last night tendered a reception to Drs. Hawson and Wolfsohn on behalf of both the government and the Socialist Party, of ##hich he is a leader. He said that he was glad that the Committee had decided to work in Europe, where it could contribute to the building of a democratic system where all persons, regardless of race or religion, would live in equality. Many Jewish leaders attended the reception.
