Iro Cuts Rations of Jewish Dp’s in Italy Below Subsistence Level; Disturbances Feared

The daily rations of displaced persons in IRO-administered camps in Italy have been cut from 2,400 calories to 1,400, which is below the madically accepted standerd for subsistence. The Central Committee of Jewish Refugees has wired William H. Tuck, executive secretary of the IRO Preparatory Commission, protesting the reduction.

In an attempt to meet the emergency created by the IRO move and to avert disturbances in the camps, the JDC today began distributing to every DP parcels containing 9,000 calories worth of food.
