The majority of American voters back the proposed partition of Palestine, according to a Gallup Poll, the results of which were announced today. Of those questioned, 65 percent favored the partition plan, only ten percent were opposed and the others had no opinion.

However, virtually all of those polled opposed sending U.S. troops to keep peace in Palestine. Sixty-five percent thought the U.N. should send a force to maintain law and order in event of violence between Arabs and Jews, while only three percent favored sending American forces. Eighteen percent thought neither U.N. nor U.S. troops should be used, while the remainder had no opinion.
