A serious shortage of coins is now developing throughout Israel as a result of the government’s decision not to issue banknotes of small denominations after calling in all such notes issued by the former Mandatory Power.

Restaurants and stores in Tel Aviv are meeting the situation by issuing chits. An official announcement said today that the government intends to import metals to mint coins.
