President Truman’s attitude toward Israel in the present situation and his persistent efforts in behalf of liberalization of the current DP Immigration Act were hailed in a resolution adopted last night at the closing session of the tenth annual national convention of the United Jewish Appeal, which earlier had adopted a goal of $250,000,000 for the coming year.
The conference concluded without adopting a decision on whether to invite Former Secretary of the Treasury, Henry Morgenthau, Jr., to accept a third successive term as general chairman of the U.J.A. drive. The matter was left to the Joint Distribution Committee and the United Palestine Appeal, the two major constituent agencies of the U.J.A., to decide at a later date.
