President and Mme. Juan Peron attended a banquet here last night arranged in their honor by the pro-Peron Jewish group, Organization Israelita Argentina, in cooperation with other Jewish organizations. More than 1,000 persons, including several Ministers, members of Congress, high military leaders, mayor of Buenos Aires and Israeli representatives, participated in the festivities.
Speakers thanked President Peron for Argentina recognition of Israel and the decision taken over the week-end by the Constituent Assembly not to recognize sky racial differences, Peron, whose remarks were frequently interrupted by thunder ovations, lauded the “noble and glorious Israeli nation” and assented that the Jews exemplify moral fortitude.
All the Jews in Argentina, the President said, “are our brothers,” Peron ?iced the hope for peace in the Middle East for both the Jews and Arabs and asked at “God send prosperity to Israel” Mme. Eva Peron wishes happiness to Israel and the world Jewry.
Argentine Chief Rabbi S. Schlesinger presented the President and his wife with Scroll of the Law, The names of President and time. Peron were also inscribed in the Jewish National Fund’s Golden Book.
