The position of Jews in northern Algeria is “infinitely better” than in Morocco, Dr. David Lvovitch, executive chairman of the World ORT Union, reported today upon his return from a tour of ORT schools in Morocco and Algeria. He was accompanied by Salomon Grumbach, former chairman of the French Council of the Republic and a leader of the ORT movement in France.

Dr. Lvovitch said that 660 students are now enrolled in the Casablanca ORT Alliance Israelite Universelle trade school established in 1946. No more pupils can accepted there, he said, until a new training center outside the city is opened. A site for a new building was recently donated by Jules Senouf, president of the ORT in Morocco, while construction of a new girls’ school is also planned, he added.
